Ceerigaabo in the crosshairs as Sool region is about to be liberated

As Somaliland loses Laascaanood and soon as expected the whole of Sool region after 17 years of occupation, Ceerigaabo in Sanaag region is in the crosshairs as the next city to be liberated from Somaliland. With that in mind, President Muse Bihi of Somaliland sent a high-level delegation to Ceerigaabo and to Sultan Said Sultan Abdisalam, Traditional Leader of the Warsangali clan, with a request not to wage war in Ceerigaabo, a multiclan metropolitan city in the highlands of Sanaag region dominated by the Harti group of clans, mainly Warsangeli and Dhulbahante.

Ceerigaabo, since the election of Abdullahi Yusuf as President of the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia (TFG) in 2004, has been under the military administration of Somaliland, where then the Somaliland flag started flying in the city for the first time.

Meanwhile, Somaliland suffering heavy military losses in Laascaanood and now with no military presence in Sanaag region, as the last contingent in Yubbe Military Base was abruptly closed and its contingent transferred to fight in Laascaanood on 10 February, is unable to wage war on another front; as such, President Muse Bihi sent two key allies, Mustafa Ali Bile (Mustafa Godane – Somaliland Minister of Planning) & Ahmed Aden Gurey (Somaliland Minister of Rural Affairs), to meet Sultan Said with a message from Bihi.

Reliable sources in the inner circle of the Sultan have told Daljir Media that the two ministers met Sultan Said Sultan Abdisalam and successfully managed President Bihi to talk with Sultan Said, and the Sultan has agreed, in principle, that he will not allow his Warsangeli clan to retake the city of Ceerigaabo from Somaliland by force.

This a breaking news so stay tuned to Daljir Media for further details.
