Insurgents from the armed group, Al-Shabaab launched simulteneuos attacks on military bases hosting coalition troops in the Lower Shabelle region.
Al-Shabaab fighters attacked military bases in the towns of Janaale and Qoryooleey, which both have Ugandan troops stationed there.
Causalities are unclear at the moment as the situation is still developing. The African Union could not be reached for comment.
Uganda has 8,000 troops deployed in Somalia as part of a multi-national peacekeeping aimed at propping up the fragile Western-backed government in Mogadishu.
Al-Shabaab which has been waging a 15 year long insurgency routinely targets foreign troops and allied Somali government forces.
