Qatar’s deputy prime minister, Khalid Bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah met with Somalia’s Defense Minister Abdulqadir Mohamed Nur, who is currently on an official state visit to the Qatari capital of Doha.
Per Qatari state media, the meeting was aimed at strengthening joint cooperation between the respective countries in the field of security.
This meeting comes just a day after Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned an Al-Shabaab attack in the Somali capital, Mogadishu as previously reported by Daljir Media.
Qatar remains a key ally of Somalia in the field of security, development and diplomatic relations. However, Somalia has often found itself caught up in the middle of Gulf rivalries as Qatar battles for influence as it competes with the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
