The Al-Qaeda linked militant group Al-Shabaab have captured a prisoner of war (POW) during an attack on an outpost manned by Ugandan-trained Somali troops in the Yaqshid district of Mogadishu.
The incident occurred overnight in the Darusalam neighborhood in the city’s northern Yaqshid district when heavily armed Al-Shabaab fighters attacked the troops in the midst of the night.
Once the smoke cleared, five soldiers were left dead and one was captured alive and whisked away to an undisclosed location.
The prisoner of war (POW) has been identified as 21 year old Ahmed Abdi Ali and gave an interview to the Al-Shabaab affiliated radio station dubbed Radio Andulus, where he admitted he had been captured fighting on behalf of the government.
A total of 3,000 troops trained by Uganda are in the Somali capital Mogadishu to take part in improving security and keeping Al-Shabaab at bay.
