Scores of US trained troops killed in Somalia

Scores of US trained Somali special forces were killed in an ambush outside the coastal town of Kismayo in the Lower Jubba region of Somalia.

Troops from the elite Danab Brigade were on routine patrol outside Kismayo when they were attacked by Al-Shabaab fighters, leaving 10 dead and two military vehicles destroyed.

Neither the US or Somali governments have addressed the latest round of violence targeting US trained Somali troops.

Danab, initially formed in 2013, is an elite commando unit funded, trained, armed and backed by the United States to target the Al-Qaeda linked militant group Al-Shbaab.
