New rebel group gains ground in Northern Somalia

A newly formed rebel group consisting of fighters from the Garxajis sub clan of the larger Isaaq clan have gained ground in Northern Somalia’s Togdheer region.

Heavily armed rebel forces have seized the town of Daba-gorayaale, which has forced Somaliland troops to withdraw from the town to avoid confrontation that would escalate the situation.

Upon seizing the town of Daba-gorayaale, the rebels seized a customs checkpoint and furthermore looted a vehicle belonging to HALO TRUST.

HALO TRUST is a Dutch based organization that clears landmines in Somalia and often employees locals to do-so.

The latest advance made Garxajis rebels has taken many by surprise, with fears growing that Somaliland will disintegrate and ultimately collapse from within.

The Somaliland administration is already bogged down by heavy resistance in the SSC regions and the rise of a new rebel group in Togdheer is akin to hitting the nail on the coffin, that is expected to secure the demise of Somaliland as a single state-entity.
