WHO IS SULDAAN ABDIQANI QORANE MOHAMED?
‘Suldaan’ Abdiqani Qorane Mohamed is the gentleman who read the press release by the Puntland opposition traditional leaders, and he is also a signatory to the divisive ‘verdict’ by the same opposition members of Puntland traditional leaders.
Even though ‘Suldaan’ Abdiqani hails from Puntland, he is reported to be neither a traditional leader nor even a resident of Puntland. He is a close associate of President @HassanSMohamud and he often travels with the President. During President Hassan Sheikh’s stay in Dhusamareeb, ‘Suldaan’ Abdiqani was always on his side.
Abdiqani Mohamed is also a resident of Mogadishu with a room at the very expensive and highly secure Jazeera Hotel. He is on government payroll and all his expenses are paid by Villa Somalia.
The Puntland clan Abdiqani Mohamed purports to represent has two recognized clan elders and he is none of them.
Abdiqani Mohamed came to the political scene in late 2006 when as a young man he joined the Islamic Courts as a footsoldier in Bandiiradley in their failed drive to attack and capture Galkayo, where then upon defeat he ran away to Mogadishu.
Subsequently, during the Presidency of Abdullahi Yusuf, as a member of the Islamic courts, he turned into a political broker who vehemently opposed Puntland and President Adde Muse. Since then he remained in Mogadishu as a fierce opponent of Puntland.
Abdiqani Qorane landed in Garoowe few days ago, and tonight is the first time in a long while that he is being seen in Garoowe and in Puntland political scene.
Upon his return to Puntland, the first thing Abdiqani Mohamed did is claim to be a traditional leader and read a divisive ‘verdict’ where he expects to lead to hostilities in Puntland.
