Al-Shabaab fighters have launched an assault on the government controlled town of Goofgaduud-Buuraay, situated in the Bay region of Somalia.
Government troops encountered an assault but were able to repel the advancing militants. Casualties remain unknown as of yet.
Al-Shabaab routinely carry out attacks targeting Goofgaduud-Buuraay and have seized the town on multiple occasions throughout the year.
This last July was the last time Al-Shabaab attacked the town and seized but withdrew shortly later.
the town of Goofgaduud-Buuraay is situated 25 kilometers from the city of Baidoa, the seat of power for the Southwest regional state and remains a strategic point of entry for access to Baidoa.
