ALL FOR ME, NOTHING FOR THEE—VILLA SOMALIA EMPTIES THE TREASURY WHILE ITS ARMY WAITS FOR PAYDAY
As Villa Somalia proposes deducting $500 from MPs’ salaries to pay an army that hasn’t been paid for months, MP Abdullahi Hashi Abib exposes how President Hassan Sheikh depletes the public coffers.
In an open letter to Somalia’s armed forces, the MP tells them that while their Commander-in-Chief and his corrupt entourage travel “the world in luxury and feast on stolen millions, they have the nerve to take $500 from every MP for four months – claiming it’s for you. They use your name, but they don’t give you a single cent.”
MP Abib continues, “At a time when our brave men and women in the Somali National Army (SNA) continue to sacrifice daily for the safety and sovereignty of our nation, it is both unacceptable and deeply shameful that critical national resources are being squandered to enrich a corrupt political elite rather than support our armed forces.”
He then lists millions stolen from the public treasury by Villa Somalia, including:
1. Luqman Petroleum Co. Ltd receives $39,732.17 monthly;
2. Daljir Trading and General Service is paid $95,637.15 monthly;
3. Mogadishu Guest House Restaurant receives $33,945.15 monthly;
4. DEH Construction and Logistics Co. Ltd is paid $48,189.60 monthly.
MP Abib tells the armed forces that while they go unpaid for months, these expenditures are paid from the public treasury on monthly basis and are “recurring transfers of public funds for non-essential services.”
Villa Somalia’s lavish lifestyle also include the following expenses:
1. $246,859.00 for a two-day trip by the President;
2. $415,000.00 for a four-day trip to New York;
3. $902,557.70 paid to SADECH Builders Logistic Consultancy Co for undisclosed purposes;
4. $189,455.00 spent on a single dinner hosted by Villa Somalia for the President of Djibouti;
5. $194,000.00 paid to Blink Logistic Services for “fixing” the President’s vehicle;
6. $194,983.43 for repairing the Office of the Prime Minister;
7. $150,000.00 for a 30-minute helicopter visit to Adan Yabaal by the Prime Minister;
8. $217,255.75 paid to Eagle Trading and General Service for routine “maintenance.”
MP Abib without mincing any words tells the Army that “This pattern reveals a grotesque misuse of power and public funds by those entrusted to serve the Somali people. Millions of dollars are flowing into luxury, consultancy, and personal comfort while our soldiers – the very defenders of the Federal Republic of Somalia – struggle to feed their families, lack proper housing, and receive salaries that are far below international or even regional standards.”
He then adds, “You are starving because they are stealing.”
Where do these funds stolen from the public treasury by the very man entrusted to safeguard go to? MP Abib answers that question and tells the nation that “They take in tens of millions of dollars from international partners, donors, and taxpayers – and deposit that money in secret bank accounts in Turkey, Kenya, UAE, Djibouti, and beyond. They invent fake expenses: travel, repairs, gas, oil, “trainings”, endless conferences. And still, you’re told there’s no money to give you even a living wage.”
Will the governments of Turkey, Kenya, UAE, Djibouti and UK banks return these stolen funds to Somalia or this is all a deliberate plan to dismantle the very fabric of the nation?
