In a first of its kind, Somalia’s Ambassador to India Ahmed Ali Dahir, with the tacit approval of Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Macallin Fiqi first fires and then revokes the diplomatic immunity of First Secretary Fadumo Mohamed Abdi. The ambassador then followed it up with a request to India’s foreign ministry to expel her within a week.
Fadumo is accused of committing the crime of being from Puntland and also advocating for alleged Somali pirates who were locked up in India jails and subsequently transferring them to the UN supported pirate jail in Garoowe.
The expulsion of Fadumo and her children from India is now imminent and expected in two days.
Former Attorney General Ahmed Ali Dahir was in 2022 appointed as Somalia’s Ambassador to India, and is also accredited for Bangladesh, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Surrounded by accusation of forcibly taking over private properties in Mogadishu and selling them to business associates in Mogadishu, he was then appointed to Somalia’s Attorney General in 2014 by President Hassan Sheikh, where as Attorney General he ‘legalized’ his associates’ practice of forcibly taking over private and public properties in Mogadishu.
This is a developing story, stay tuned to further details.
