An uptick in revenge killings fueled by clan violence has skyrocketed in Somalia’s Mudug region, Daljir Media has learnt.
A rural nomad was shot dead this morning in the town of Jehdin in Eastern Mudug. The victim was said to have hailed from the Galmudug region, with the perpetrators allegedly hailing from the neighboring Puntland region.
This was followed by reprisals this afternoon that saw four people shot dead and two others wounded in the area between Kaxandhale and Dacdheer in the Mudug region, with the attackers hailing from Galmudug.
Clashes between rival clans isn’t a new occurrence in Somalia but the speed in which these killings has unfolded have alarmed many people.
The Mudug region is the largest province in Somalia an administered by both Puntland (North Mudug) and Galmudug (South Mudug), were tit for tat skirmishes have taken place on and off throughout the years.
