Nasro Abukar Ali, the controversial Somali runner, has spoken at first time following her dismal performance at the sprinting tournament in China.
In an interview, with exiled Somali journalist Munasar Mohamed, Nasro Abukar Ali went on the record to explain her side of the story on how things transpired.
Nasro stated that she made her way to the tournament in China after being selected by a local university, which she believed was a golden opportunity.
When asked about her dismal performance, Nasro vehemently stated she came into the tournament would give will but things happened out of her control.
“When the race began, I pulled a muscle” Nasro said.
“Once I pulled the muscle, I was overcome with anger but I still tried to finish the race” She went on to say.
The growing level of backlash from fellow Somalis hit a nerve with Nasro.
“I didn’t expect to be condemned by own (Somali) community for trying my best.” Nasro continued, “I only had one month to train but gave it all I had.”
When asked about her relationship with the sports federation, Nasro vehemently denied any connection to the Sports Federation and Federal Ministry of Sports.
“I was selected by a local university to compete and there is no reason why the chairwomen of the sports federation should be suspended,” said Nasro.
As initially reported by Daljir Media yesterday, the chairwomen of the sports federation was suspended by the Ministry of Youth & Sports due to the dismal performance in China.
However, Nasro did confirm that the Federal Sports Ministry was aware of her going and competing in China, and even gave her a farewell as she departed Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu!
Both local and international media outlets picked up on the debacle in China that raised concerns of negligence and nepotism with Somalia’s sporting authorities.
Nasro Abukar Ali has vowed to continue competing in sprinting, and vows she’ll represent Somalia on the world stage next year.
