Former US President Donald Trump has made a new campaign promise while on the campaign trail, stating that he’d re-instate the travel ban on several countries, including Somalia.
While speaking to supporters at an event n Bluffs, Iowa, the former president stated that he’d expand the travel ban restrictions witnessed during his first stint in office.
The pretext being to combat terrorism and extremism as the president put it while addressing supporters at the campaign rally in Iowa.
“When I return to office, the travel ban is coming back even bigger than before and much stronger than before. We don’t want people blowing up our shopping centers. We don’t want people blowing up our cities and we don’t want people stealing our farms” the former president said.
Many analysts view Trump’s latest campaign promise to revive the travel ban as an attempt by the embattled former president to rally support by exploiting fears and rising levels of Islamaphobia in the United States.
Elections are slated to take place in the United States in November of 2024, where millions of Americans are expected to go to the polls.
