Consultant – Youth Learners Initiative (SYLI) Program – Somalia
Program Objectives and Results:
SYLI is a USAID-funded Education Program that was initially designed for five years (from 30th September 2011 to 29th September 2016). The program was jointly designed by a consortium consisting of Mercy Corps (as the lead), CARE International, Save the Children UK, Somaliland National Youth Organization (SONYO) and Mudug Development Association Network (MUDAN).
The five-year education program focused on increasing access to education through construction/rehabilitation, capacity building of teachers and students, and civic engagement. Activities under the original design of SYLI included construction or rehabilitation of schools to increase the number of available classrooms in secondary schools, pre-service and in-service capacity building for teachers, capacity building for community members and regional education officials, provision of non-formal education, and training on leadership and civic engagement for in-school and out-of-school youth.
