IED targets military vehicle, leaving 5 dead in Mogadishu

A deadly roadside bomb blast occurred in the Somali capital Mogadishu mid afternoon today targeting Ugandan-trained Somali troops.

The incident unfolded in the Darusalam neighborhood, when a military pick up truck (technical) was on routine patrol when it encountered an IED, sparking a blast that engulfed the vehicle.

The subsequent blast killed five soldiers and wounded six others. One star colonel Abdi Hamid was among those killed Daljir Media has learned.

The armed group Al-Shabaab has taken credit for the attack as attacks against government troops in and around Mogadishu intensify in recent weeks.
