IN A TREASONEOUS DECLARATION, VILLA SOMALIA BACKED BY TURKEY GRANTS LANDLOCKED ETHIOPIA ACCESS TO SOMALI SEAS; CONCERNS RISE OVER AWDAL STATE TAKEOVER AND SOMALI MP SEEKS ERITREA SUPPORT IN DEFENSE OF SOMALIA

CAN ERITREA SAVE SOMALIA FROM TURKEY BACKED ETHIOPIA?

With President Erdogan and Turkey forcing President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s hand to grant Ethiopia an unimpeded access to Somali seas, Federal Government of Somalia MP Abdullahi Hashi Abib, in an effort to save his constituency of Awdal State from Ankara Declaration and Ethiopian takeover of the Awdal coast of Saylac and Lughaye, writes a heartfelt plea letter to President Afwerki of Eretrea.

In his plea letter to President Afwerki, MP Abib writes, “Your Excellency, unlike the self-serving international leaders such as Turkey Leadership and AKP [Turkey ruling party] who dominate and others much of our geopolitical landscape, you have the rare ability to see beyond personal gain and focus on what is right and just. Awdal State needs a leader with your honesty, vision, and commitment to humanity. Your support would mean not only aiding people in need but also forging a lasting legacy of solidarity and partnership that will be remembered and celebrated by future generations.”

MP Abib, looking back at history and the role Somalia in solidarity with Eritrea played in their liberation struggle, reminds President Afwerki that “since the 1960s, the relationship between Eritrea and Somalia has been one of mutual support and understanding. During Eritrea’s liberation struggle, Somalia stood with the Eritrean people, offering moral, diplomatic, military, financial, and logistical support to the cause of independence. This was not merely a political act – it reflected the deep solidarity between our peoples, united by a shared aspiration for freedom, dignity, and sovereignty. When Somalia was a young republic, striving to establish itself as a stable and sovereign nation, Eritrea’s liberation movement looked to us as a partner and ally in the fight against oppression. Somalia’s support for Eritrean independence came from a genuine place of empathy and justice, understanding the value of self-determination and the pain of colonial and imperial domination.”

MP Abib then describes the threat Somalia and Awdal State of Somalia in particular faces today and writes, “Your Excellency, with great respect and admiration for your unwavering leadership and the resilience of the Eritrean people, I reach out to you on behalf of the Awdal State of Somalia and its proud citizens. It is a heartfelt call for solidarity, rooted in the deep and historic bonds that tie the Somali and Eritrean people’s together. The Awdal State of Somalia, a land rich in heritage and pride, is under threat from an aggressive Abyssinian regime that has sought to annex our coastal territory from Zeila to Ceel Sheikh – a stretch of land and sea spanning 100 miles that is vital to our identity, economy, and sovereignty. This aggression is not new; it is a continuation of ambitions dating back to 1884. Yet, despite these longstanding challenges, our people remain steadfast in their determination to defend their homeland. Regrettably, the Federal Government of Somalia has not only failed to protect our territory but has also refused to provide us with the necessary support to defend ourselves.”

MP Abib pleads with President Afwerki that the people of Awdal State and all those across Somalia need Eritrea’s help and support and that each and everyone of them is “ready to defend our land and sea against the encroachment and aggression of the Abyssinian regime.”

In his letter to the President of Eritrea, MP Abib concludes that the people of Awdal State and Awdal Dervish Forces “are counting on your brotherly solidarity to extend the military support that we so desperately need in these trying times” to defend Awdal State and its coast from Ethiopian aggression.
