MELTDOWN IN HARGEISA AS ELECTION GOES IN LIMBO Former President Farmaajo also warns against President Hassan Sheikh’s divisive politics

Given President Muse Bihi‘s latest play with Somaliland’s electoral law, it is all but given that there will be no elections in Somaliland in the near future. Meanwhile, everyone is asking “where does Somaliland go from here?” Given all the clan agreements President Muse Bihi has reneged, it is all but assured that the Gacanlibaax Movement will be reestablished. It is also assured that clan wars on the eastern front with SSC-Khatumo will pick up steam to keep Togdheer clans in limbo.

And then there is Hargeisa, where Muse Bihi is soon expected to declare a state of emergency. For all intents and purposes, given the public sentiments against President Muse Bihi and the MoU he signed with Abiy Ahmed that transfers the Saylac Coast to Ethiopia, chaos and potential civil strive is all but assured in Somaliland. The next question will then be, “will President Hassan Sheikh to keep the pressure on Muse Bihi recognize SSC-Khatumo and Awdal State as Somalia’s latest Federal Member States?”

Given latest signs from Villa Somalia and reported secret negotiations with certain MPs to support President Hassan Sheikh’s proposed constitutional changes, all signs are pointing out to more appeasement for separatist Somaliland.

Former Somalia President Farmaajo sensing where the political winds at Villa Somalia are blowing, today posted a brief press release opposing President Hassan Sheikh’s proposed constitutional changes.

On both his X and Facebook, former President Farmaajo warned against any constitutional changes in this difficult time when Somalia is under attack by Ethiopia. Farmaajo calling for unity also warned against divisive politics President Hassan wants to undertake at a time when Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity is under attack.
