It is another day and another personal and political fiasco by a key cabinet member of President Hassan Sheikh. And this time it is none other than Mr. Hassan Adam Hosow, the Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC), who also serves as President Hassan Sheikh’s Chief Economic Advisor. Mr. Hosow through a standard Harvard Business Review subscription was invited, as part of the magazine subscription, to join the Advisory Council, which he did. But what happened next is the most noteworthy.
Mr. Hosow, President Hassan Sheikh’s Chief Economic Advisor and Executive Director of the National Economic Council, who has been alleged to be a fraud and isn’t as he claims an “Economist” with a PhD, but rather, according to the records of the University of Illinois, holds a degree in Master of Management, upon subscribing and receiving the Harvard journal invitation immediately posted on his Facebook page another attempt to impress and embellish his credentials. He wrote, “It is with great honor that Harvard Business Review has invited me to join its Advisory Council.”
MP Abdullahi Hashi Abib, who previously exposed the academic misrepresentation of Mr. Hassan Hosow, wasn’t having none of it and immediately drafted a letter to President Hassan Sheikh. The MP wrote, “Mr. President, I must reiterate my profound and growing concern regarding the qualifications and suitability of key individuals who hold the reins of our nation’s most critical economic institutions. The implications of their inadequacies cannot be overstated, as the very future of our nation’s economic stability and development is at stake. Specifically, Mr. Hassan Adam Hosow, who currently serves as both the Chairman of the National Economic Council and your Senior Economic Advisor, alongside the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and Investment, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Somalia, have all been exposed as possessing highly questionable academic credentials.”

MP Abib continued, “Mr. President, it has come to my attention with great concern that Mr. Hosow has made the astonishing and, frankly, alarming claim that he was personally invited by the Harvard Business Review to join their Advisory Council – a position that, in any credible context, would necessitate a distinguished track record in economics, business, and finance, as well as advanced academic credentials. However, upon diligent investigation, it became evident that this purported “invitation” is, in reality, nothing more than a standard subscription offer, indiscriminately extended to the general public, irrespective of their qualifications or professional experience.”

MP Abib promises that this will not be the end and “In light of the gravity of the situation, I have taken the necessary step of informing the higher-ranking officials in your inner circle about two formal cases (Case I: 28904 and Case II: 28906) that I have submitted to the World Bank’s Office of Integrity (INT) against Mr. Hosow. The implications of these investigations are far-reaching and could lead to Mr. Hosow, along with the institutions affiliated with him—including the National Economic Council, Villa Somalia, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Planning, and the Central Bank of Somalia – being Embarked (blacklisted) by the World Bank Group. Such an outcome would be catastrophic, not only for the individuals involved but also for our nation’s standing with international financial institutions.”
