Galmudug Ministry of Security just published a damning press release that indirectly points fingers at Villa Somalia for being responsible for the illegal smuggling of weapons from Ethiopia to Galmudug.
The press release states that Galmudug security agencies have “been closely monitoring the movement of weapons smuggled from Ethiopia to the North of Galmudug. The security agencies tried to get hold of the weapons to prevent the threat of security and instability these weapons will create in the region.”
The press release continues that Galmudug is aware of the person behind the smuggling operation and clearly states that he is an individual who is famous for trading in illicit and illegal products “with the aim of serving the interests of terrorism for the purpose of disrupting the security and stability of Galmudug.”
Then comes the shocker Villa Somalia never expected as Galmudug demands from Villa Somalia and the Federal Government “to bring the conspirators to justice.”
Who are the conspirators who threaten President Qoorqoor and Galmudug and who are trading in illegal weapons and other illicit stuff in Galmudug, including illegal mining operations?
As we reported yesterday, it is none other than Liban Shuluq, the president’s business associate, financier of his political campaigns and special secret projects, including mining operations in Ceelbuur and who now has his sights on replacing President Qoorqoor as the next Galmudug President. This is the man President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is arming to rule Galmudug, Mr. Liban Ahmed Hassan a/k/a Liban Shuluq, a former Galmudug militia leader turned illegal mining operator, turned President Hassan Sheikh’s confidante.
Just in case you missed, in an interview yesterday in Abudwaaq with one of the militia leaders that seized the weapons, he told Daljir that “President Hassan Sheikh had a plan for these weapons and it was to destabilize the region by first helping Liban Shuluq size power from Qoorqoor and then expand clan hostilities in Mudug and Galgaduud regions.”
And now Galmudug and President Qoorqoor have made their stand very clear to President Hassan Sheikh: it is no longer Villa Somalia vs the sub-clans of Northern Galgaduud but Galmudug and Qoorqoor vs Villa Somalia.
And finally, in the press release, Galmudug sends condolences to people of northern Galgaduud who lost their lives during the smuggling of the illicit weapons, of course, with no mention of what they should do with the weapons they seized from Liban Shuluq and Villa Somalia.
As an anonymous source close to Galmudug State House tells Daljir, “this latest coup attempt against Qoorqoor’s rule will serve as a reminder to the two or three attempts against his life in August-September of 2023 when he hosted President Hassan Sheikh in Dhusamareeb in what then Qoorqoor thought was a war against terror, but eventually turned into a war against Qoorqoor.”
