The National Intelligence & Security Agency (NISA) of Somalia has announced that they’re searching for two suspects for their alleged role in a recent bombing at a military academy.
The suspects have been identified as Abdisatar Abdikadir and Ayanle Mohamed. Both individuals are employed with the security forces and are believed to have played a crucial role in facilitating the bombing on behalf of Al-Shabaab, which was initially reported by Daljir Media.
WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR
Abdisatar Abdikadir is said be a member of Duufaan, an elite unit in Somalia’s National Intelligence & Security Agency (NISA) that consists of former Al-Shabaab defectors tasked with fighting the same group that they were once part of.
The announcment by NISA that Abdisatar was a wanted fugitive brought into question if Al-Shabaab defectors could really be trusted with positions in the security services without being vetted, screened and going through a thorough background check.
Similiarly, Ayanle Mohamed is a member of the security force and is part of the Somali Police Force, in which he’s served in various capacities in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu working with the police department.
SIGNS OF INFILTRATION
Concerns have grown over the years that there are serious levels of Al-Shabaab infiltration in the country’s security apparatus. the militant group Al-Shabaab, which has transitioned from a rebel outfit to a parallel government in Somalia throughout the years, has proven that its security and intelligence capabilities are far more advanced than that of the Somali government.
The ddiscovery of two Al-Shabaaab moles (Abdisatar Abdikadir & Ayaanle Mohamed) in the governments security agencies made worse by their role in facilitating a bombing that killed over 40 government soldiers at a highly secure military base has raised eyebrows and struck fear with different segments of Somali society.
Thus far, the Federal government is yet to implement any concrete strategies to root out the Al-Shabaab moles and sleeper cells operating in the government. This in itself can be attributed to why the Federal Government is struggling to tame the insurgency.
