Roadside bomb blast kills six in Somalia

A roadside bomb blast has killed scores of civilians in Somalia’s volatile Lower Shabelle region, according to reports reaching the Daljir News Desk.

A mini-bus carrying passengers traveling on the road linking the coastal town of Marka and the in-land town of Qoryooley struck a landmine hidden on the road killing six passengers and wounding scores more.

The incident occured mid after noon today with Mohamed Ibrahim Barre, the governor of Lower Shabelle confirming the death tole while speaking to local media.

The governonr accused the militant group Al-Shabaab of planting the land mind that targeted the mini bus.

“Al-Shabaab is responsible for the attack”, he went on to say while addressing local media.

However, Al-Shabaab have not taken credit for the attack. Similiarly, no other entity has taken responsibility for the bombing.

The Lower Shabelle region remains one of the most volatile regions in Somalia were opposing sides have both used landmines and roadside bombs against one another, with civilians often paying the price.
