Food shortages and fear grip the farming town of Labo-Jameeco, situated 90 kilometers from the Somali capital, Mogadishu in the neighboring Middle Shabelle region.
Torrential rains caused water levels to rise and ultimately culminated in parts of the Shabelle river banks to burst and have nearly submerged the rural farming town of Labo-Jameeco.
Flood waters have surrounded the town of Labo-Jameeco from all four directions and forced the once bustling farming-town into isolation, with nearby crop fields submerged in water.
Entrée and exit points to the town have been blocked off by shallow flood waters, making it impossible for civilians to flee the town and seek sanctuary else where. Similiarly, the prospects for food and life saving aid reaching the entrapped civilians remain dismal.
Numerous civilians are said to be in deteriorating health due to being stranded for days in the town, which remains encircled by flood waters. The authorities of the Hirshabelle regional administration are yet to address the matter despite the town of Labo-Jameeco being a mere 20 kilometers from the regional capital of Jowhar.
