UK-backed RRU paramilitary unit clashes with rebels in northern Somalia

British backed Somali paramilitary units from the RRU have been bogged down in heavy clashes with a newly formed rebel group in the Gacan Libax mountain range in Northern Somalia.

The newly formed rebel group consisting of members of the Garxajis sub-clan of the larger Isaaq clan which rules large parts of northwest Somalia have taken arms against the rogue Somaliland administration and engaged in armed clashes near the village of Dari-Maraa in the Toghdeer region of Somalia.

Ahmed Ali Haybe, the spokesperson for the Garxajis rebel group stated that their forces had battled with the UK-backed RRU paramilitary militia for close to an hour in the mountains.

“We repelled the RRU force and destroyed one of there vehicles. We did not suffer any loses on our end,” he went on to say.

Somaliland continues to teeter on the brink of collapse, as multiple rebellions arise in areas across northern Somalia that oppose Somaliland’s presence, with conflict already raging in SSC, added on with a new wave of uprisings in the Togdheer and Saaxil regions by the Garxajis clan.
