Puntland Cabinet Threatens Journalists and Media Outlets Over Media Law.

The Puntland cabinet has warned Journalists and Media outlets operating in Puntland to comply with the region’s media law and uphold professional journalism ethics.

According to a statement issued following the weekly cabinet meeting, chaired Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni and Vice President Iliyas Osman Lugatoor, The Cabinet Called on Journalists and Media Organizations in Puntland to follow the rules and regulations governing the media sector.

“Puntland Cabinet reminds Journalists and media outlets in Puntland to follow rules and rugulations of Puntland, comply with the Puntland Media Law, uphold journalism ethics and respect fundamental media principle,” Deputy Minister of Information said during press conference.

The cabinet also decided to take appropriate actions against Social media platform operators and influencers who are accused of spreading what cabinet described as baseless information and fake news.

This warning has raised concerns about media crackdown in Puntland. Media outlets and journalists in Puntland have faced restrictions and increasing pressures over the past two months.
